Title: #VERYFAT #VERYBRAVE: The Fat Girl’s Guide to Being #Brave and Not a Dejected, Melancholy, Down-in-the-Dumps Weeping Fat Girl in a Bikini
Author: Nicole Byer
Pages: 216

“Like anything in life, something new takes a hot-ass minute to get used to, so if you need to be #brave alone at home for a bit, that’s okay. You can take your time.”
As a huge fan of Nicole Byer I knew as soon as she announced this book that I wanted to read it, especially after I saw her posting her bikini pictures on Instagram. This book is a body positive journey filled with tips, tricks and photographs with Byer’s trademark humor.
Body positivity is something almost every person has to deal with at some point in their lives. We are constantly being bombarded by the media about how people should look that it is no surprise that so many people hate their bodies. Yes, I know this is changing but as Byer points out in the beginning of the book, it’s not changing fast enough. Byer’s humor and outlook on body positivity is refreshing and so truthful. She bluntly states the truth and refuses to back down from it. FYI, I am not fat but I do struggle with loving my body so this book definitely was helpful.
“But maybe I also wouldn’t have to be #brave if we stopped defining people’s bodies as anything other than just bodies.”
My favorite section of this book was probably the specific responses to insults. I died laughing at her hilarious responses to haters. They were just perfect. Her tips for the rest of your life are something that I believe every person should follow, no matter their body size. They are just overall great tips to help you get comfortable with your body and to accept yourself.
This was just a great body positive book. Nicole Byer’s voice could definitely be heard while reading this and it was like she was sitting next to me. I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of Nicole Byer or if you need more #bravery and #bodypositvity.
