4 stars – It was really good

Alita prepares for her challenge against the champion of motorball, Jasugun. She settles on an odd team featuring Caligula Armbrust, Aydakatti the Destroyer, Zafal Takie the Crimson Wind, and the ultimate black sheep, Tiegel.

This volume was action packed with motorball. We have the team match where she chooses her team and then we have the final showdown with Jasgun. I really enjoyed the action and danger of the motorball fights. The ending was triumphant and sad.

Also Alita and Ido also finally made up which made me very happy. Overall, I am still loving this series and have been flying through the volumes.

4 stars – It was really good

Life after Motorball is peaceful for Alita, at least as peaceful as it can get in the Scrapyard. But that peace is shattered by the return of former hunter-warrior Zapan, who wants Alita dead.

This volume takes place two years after the motorball arc ends. Alita has changed a lot since then. She has grown into a more peaceful person. She plays music and sings, she teaches others how to fight, and she is back with Ido. Zapan’s return changes all of that, especially after the Zalemite scientist Desty Nova changes him.

This volume was very action packed and filled with a lot of sadness. People die and others shun Alita. I was surprised at some of the things that happened in this volume but I still really enjoyed it. I am also glad to see we finally get to meet the mysterious Desty Nova, especially since he has been a key player behind the scenes up till now.

I am moving straight into the next volume because I need to know what happens after that ending.

3 stars – I liked it

Alita is now an agent of Zalem and on the hunt for Desty Nova. Her quest to find the doctor has led her to the desert sands.

This was action packed like usual but Alita is hardened and becomes addicted to battle. She is slightly crazy in parts of this volume. I feel like with Ido no longer around she is losing herself. She does make a new friend though, Figure Four. He is an interesting character. I don’t really love the romantic element that is being pushed between them because it felt very abrupt and unnatural.

This Barjack arc seems like it will be an interesting one. It is also apparently the longest story arc so we will see what happens next.
