Top Ten Tuesday: Book Events I’d Love to Go to Someday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

This week’s topic is: Book Events/Festivals I’d Love to Go to Someday

  1. ALA Annual Conference

I am a librarian (technically archivist) and have wanted to go to this conference since I started working on my degree. I don’t have an ALA membership currently though because it is pricey. I hope one day I will be able to go.

  1. BookExpo

This NYC convention is geared more towards professionals, so librarians, booksellers, publishers, etc. I am interested in this one because as an archivist working for an academic library I think this would be an interesting convection to attend. Also I have never been to New York so that would be cool.

  1. Book Lovers Con

I go to comic conventions every year and I have always wanted to go to a book convention. I heard about this one last year and really hope I can go sometime in the future. With the current issues it looks like the next one won’t be until 2022.

  1. BookCon

Another convention that I found out about last year. This one is also in NYC.  It looks to be happening next year but who knows at the current rate of things.

  1. Apollycon

This is a relatively new convention but I have heard great things. It was started by author Jennifer L. Armentrout, who also lives in WV like I do. The next Apollycon won’t be till 2022 so maybe by then I will be able to go. Also their website wasn’t working so I linked the FB page.

  1. Readers on the River

This is a two day convention created by J.R Ward and 1001 Dark Nights. There are a lot of great authors who attend and I would just love to meet J.R. Ward in person.

  1. Shameless Book Con

This book convention is all about romance. It has over 100 authors who attend and I think it would be fun to attend. Also it’s in Florida (never been) so the weather should be nice.

  1. Penned Con

This is a three day convention in St. Louis, MO (also never been). It has over 150 authors who attend and includes workshops and other activities. I have heard good things from social media about this convection so its on my list.

  1. DragonCon

I have been to two DragonCons before. It’s a comic convention that is basically a huge party. But they are one of the few comic conventions that actually get quite a few authors for signings. I didn’t love the party aspect but did love that they brought some great authors. I met Patricia Briggs, Christopher Paolini, and Sherrilyn Kenyon the years I went. I would like to go again to meet new authors but it is a pricey convention.

  1. C2E2

This convection is more for pop culture but they do bring a few authors every year. I have attended for the past five years and have met Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris, and a few others. The big name publishers also have booths here and they give out free ARCs and swag each day as well. This year’s C2E2 was right before everything shut down and I got ARCs of The Bear and the Nightingale, Foundryside (signed), and The Last Human (signed). I am really interested in seeing who they will be bringing to the next event.

Have you attended any of these events? If so, did you enjoy them?

  1. I haven’t been to huge events, but I have been to individual signings/readings. I absolutely adore Sherrilyn Kenyon. She is absolutely amazing to her fans. Now there is another author I have been reading since I was 11-years-old who I love to read. Met her and she’s is soooo cold and so unlike the romances she writes. Such a huge disappointment. It has made me wary of meeting any more of my favorites (laugh).

    1. I have also been reading her since I was a teenager. I meet her two years in a row and she was very nice both times I meet her. I know she has had a lot of family issues though that has affected her time with fans so that might it was just a bad day.
