3 stars – I liked it

I have heard great things about this series since it came out but never felt like reading it. With all the recent hype towards the series, and it fighting a Romanceopoly prompt, I decided to give the series a try.

First off I don’t love young adult books. They are very hit and miss. I was afraid to read this series because of that. I  enjoyed this book for the most part.  It felt  like a middle grade book thorough which I don’t like reading but I stuck it out and hoped it would get better. Once the action started it got better and I started enjoying the story.

Percy was a pretty good character. I liked him for the most part. He definitely isn’t a perfect character but it just made him feel more real. I really liked Annabeth and Grover. I think I liked them more than Percy and kind of wanted their POV for some of the scenes.

I can understand why this series is so popular, especially if you read them as a young adult and grew up reading them. At this point I am debating on if I will read the second book because I did like this book but the MG writing style was a problem for me. Overall, I love the mash of mythology and real life but this didn’t blow me away like everyone seems to think it will.
