I am a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe so when I decided to participate in the O.W.L.s Magical Readathon I couldn’t resist choosing this story for one of the prompts. I decided this time to listen to an audio version of this story read by Christopher Lee and he does an amazing job. I totally recommend listening to this version.
“I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him.”
This is one of my favorite Poe stories. It’s dark, horrifying, insane, and filled with regret. The narrator’s hatred of the old man’s eye makes him go crazy and plot his death. This is such a dark tale but it shows how crazy and obsessive humans can become.
“Villains!’ I shrieked. ‘Dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up the planks! Here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart!”
If you are interested in reading a Poe story I suggest this one. It’s short, dark, and gives you a good idea of what his writing is like.
